Maria Light

Clinical Psychologist

Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)

Master of Clinical Psychology

Maria is an experienced clinical psychologist who has worked with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings for the last ten years. In addition to private practice she has worked in school settings and has also facilitated therapy groups for social anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.

When working with individual clients, Maria predominantly uses emotion focused therapy (EFT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) approaches. She also finds mindfulness and relaxation strategies to be very helpful for clients and enjoys teaching these skills. She has worked with a wide range of psychological issues and continues to develop her skills through personal and professional
development training. In addition to her clinical masters degree, Maria has also completed additional training in family systems therapy, emotion focused therapy and play therapy for children.

Maria is passionate about empowering clients through their process of growth and change. She focusses not only on addressing current symptoms but exploring the core of these issues in order to resolve underlying traumas and beliefs about the self. With a focus on building a strong therapeutic alliance to support the
individual through their journey, Maria aims to provide a patient, compassionate and non-judgmental approach to therapy.
